NOTICE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE COBB COUNTY TAX COMMISSIONER:
You can now file for exemptions year-round. However, you must file your application by March 1 to affect the taxes for that year.

Detailed information and applications are available at www.cobbtax.org. Homestead Exemption applications are mailed in January and February to homeowners on record who purchased or transferred property the previous year. If you do not receive one by March 1, you can download an application from the web or call (770) 528-8600. You can apply for most exemptions by mail. You may also apply at the tax office located at 100 Cherokee Street, Suite 250, Marietta (just off the Marietta Square) or at the East and South Cobb Government Service Centers located at 4400 Lower Roswell Road and 4700 Austell Road. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline to be processed for the current year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- By law, all exemptions apply only to your homestead property.
- You must own, occupy and claim the property as your legal residence on January 1
- You must register your vehicles where you claim Homestead Exemptions
- A husband and wife constitute one ?applicant? under the law and may claim only one exemption
- If you own multiple properties, you may claim exemptions on only one property
- Notify the Tax Commissioner?s office in the event you no longer qualify for an exemption
EXEMPTIONS:
- Cobb County Homestead Exemption ($10,000)
- Cobb County School Tax Exemption
- Must be age 62 or older on January 1 (proof of age required); exemption extends to adjoining, unimproved property; Reduces tax bill by more than 60%
- Cobb County $22,000 Disability Exemption
- Must be totally and permanently disabled on January 1; Net income limitation of $12,000 (proof of income required); Doctor?s statement of eligibility require
- State Veteran’s Disability Exemption ($50,000)
- Disabled veterans as defined in O.C.G.A. 48-5-48; Upon death of applicant, extends to un-remarried spouse or minor child who still occupies homestead; Legal documentation required from U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs
- Surviving Spouse ($50,000)
- Un-remarried surviving spouse of member of U.S. armed forces who was killed, or died as a result of a war or armed conflict as defined in O.C.G.A. 48-5-52.1; Legal documentation required from Secretary of Defense
- State Senior Citizens $4,000 Homestead Exemption
- Must be age 65 or older on January 1 (proof of age required); Net income limitation of $10,000 (proof of income required)
- City of Kennesaw exemptions are filed with the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s office.
