Cobb County Schools Consider Later Start Date

The Cobb County School District is considering moving the starting date from August 10 to August 17 for the Fall 2009 school year.  Many are asking where the extra five days are going to come from.  The state mandates at least 180 days of instruction.  State school Superintendent Kathy Cox has said calendars are a local decision. 2008 Georgia Schools of Excellence

26 schools from across the state were selected a Georgia Schools of Excellence. The schools are chosen from each congressional district and honored in one of two categories: Top 10% and Greatest Gains. Only one school per district may be selected for each category.
